Technology assists hospital with
recruiting drive
BARRIE, Ont. – Royal Victoria
Hospital has launched a state-of-the-art human resource information
system that will facilitate the hiring process when it begins the
largest employee recruitment drive in the history of the region.
The new Telus Sourcing Solutions technology dramatically streamlines the
hospital’s human resource functions, such as payroll, pension and
benefits administration, along with disability management. According to
the company, the system makes use of ‘best in class’ technology and
software application platforms.
The automation of these human resources services will allow the hospital
to focus on the recruitment and hiring of more than 1,000 new employees
needed when the Phase 1 Expansion Project is complete.
“When the redeveloped hospital opens in 2012, we will require an
additional 1,000 employees and up to 75 new physicians. This new system
better positions us to focus our efforts on this massive employment
drive,” says David Coward, Chief Human Resources Officer, RVH. “Our
partnership with Telus ensures we can focus a substantial effort on
recruitment, while automating other processes for our existing
employees.”
The Telus system will deliver a variety of benefits to Royal Victoria
Hospital’s current 2,200 employees. With quick and simple access to a
new HR website, employees can electronically manage transactions,
including changes to their marital or dependent status, leave of absence
requests and benefits selections, whenever and wherever they wish.
Should assistance be required, a new HR call centre is available to
answer questions and help employees with urgent issues that may require
an HR professional. Additionally, all available positions are now posted
online and candidates may apply using the new recruitment management
system.
“We’ve been helping care delivery organizations for many years to
successfully transform their human resource function into a strategic
and value-add business for all stakeholders,” remarked Larry Spagnolo,
president Telus Sourcing Solutions Inc. “Our partnership with the Royal
Victoria Hospital allows them to focus their resources on what they do
best – delivering world class patient care – while we provide technology
solutions to streamline their human resources management.”
Construction of Royal Victoria Hospital’s Phase 1 Expansion Project is
well under way, and when complete, will include capacity for 165
additional inpatient beds, a dedicated coronary care unit, two
additional operating rooms, expanded emergency and imaging departments,
an expanded and a fully-automated laboratory.
The project also includes the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre,
which will provide comprehensive cancer care for patients throughout
Simcoe and Muskoka. The $450 million project will double the size of the
existing hospital.
