Nightingale signs distribution deal
for portal and EMR
MARKHAM, Ont. – Nightingale
Informatix Corporation, a provider of electronic medical record software
and related services, announced that it has entered into an exclusive
licensing agreement with Canadian Patient Access Inc. to offer
health-related services to Canadian patients, through doctors using
electronic medical records in their practices.
Using Nightingale’s patient-centric technology and secure web-based
patient portal, Canadian Patient Access Inc. will offer doctors a
patient services platform seamlessly integrated with Nightingale On
Demand, the Company’s EMR and Practice Management system.
The platform will provide patients with direct access to their physician
and to clinic administrators. It will allow patients to schedule medical
appointments online at their convenience. The patient portal will allow
patients to review and access their medical history and laboratory
results online, request prescription refills, request eConsults with
their physician and receive care, medication and appointment reminders,
all in a sophisticated and secure, easy to use online environment.
“Today people want to be informed about their healthcare and to be
involved in how it is managed,” said Moe Jiwan, President of Canadian
Patient Access Inc. “We use the Internet to enhance so many aspects of
our lives, but we have only begun to realize what is possible when it
comes to healthcare. One of our primary goals is to help doctors
leverage the investments they are making in EMR, allowing them to engage
with patients in a way that enhances the patient experience while adding
efficiencies to the delivery of care.”
Clinics will experience efficiency improvements as patients take
advantage of the convenience and personalization of the patient portal.
There will be tangible benefits resulting from patients using online
self-service tools rather than contacting the clinic by phone or in
person.
And the integration of the portal with the Nightingale EMR and practice
management system provides a highly efficient means of managing and
delivering innovative services not covered by provincial health
insurance plans.
“With this agreement we are poised to set a new standard in the way
patient services are delivered in Canada. The management of Canadian
Patient Access are proven leaders in the delivery of innovative patient
centric healthcare,” said Sam Chebib, President of Nightingale
Informatix. “Along with their experience in marketing to patients and
physicians, the investment that CPA is making will allow Nightingale to
unlock the value of its patient portal technology and its extensive
customer base of physicians across Canada to drive additional revenues
and growth.”
Under the terms of the agreement Canadian Patient Access Inc. will be
the exclusive distributor of Nightingale’s patient portal, Priority
Access, in Canada. Nightingale will receive upfront consideration in the
form of cash and equity, and it will receive ongoing royalties from the
sale of services and technology. In addition, Canadian Patient Access
Inc. will have non-exclusive rights to market and sell other Nightingale
products including Nightingale On Demand, the company’s web-based
electronic medical record (EMR) system.
