Cissec wins cardiac registry project in US

KINGSTON – Cissec Corp., a software development firm specializing in healthcare technology, was recently awarded a contract to design and develop a National Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Registry for the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).

This is Cissec’s second national registry project for cardiac rehabilitation. The first, for the Canadian Association of Cardiac Rehabilitation, is nearing the end of its initial rollout.

Although the platform for the AACVPR registry is being developed by Cissec, content was developed and is overseen by AACVPR and the cardiac rehab specialists who make up its Registry Committee.

“We are pleased to be working with Cissec on the AACVPR Outpatient Cardiac Rehab Registry,” said Steve Lichtman, President-Elect of AACVPR. “They bring valuable experience in the development of healthcare registries, particularly through their work on the Canadian Cardiac Rehab Registry. They have shown a clear understanding of the objectives of the AACVPR registry and what is needed to achieve our goals.”

Cissec has developed a registry solution that allows subscribers to securely access rigorous, high-quality data in real-time, from anywhere. “Registries that provide their users with real-time feedback on key performance metrics are few and far between,” noted Justin Rimmer (pictured), Director of Sales and Customer Relations at Cissec. “Too often, registries consume data, process it, and produce reports that are outdated by the time subscribers receive them.”

With the AACVPR registry, programs will not only have immediate access to their patients’ data but will be able to see how their data compares to aggregate data from other programs on a national level. Further, the registry will provide comparative aggregate data for benchmarking clinical, behavioral, health, and service outcomes and will track the influence of cardiac rehabilitation on morbidity and mortality.

Effective delivery of data is critical to a successful registry implementation. Cissec will provide an application programming interface (API) to participating cardiac rehab programs, allowing programs with existing electronic systems to seamlessly and securely send data to the registry. “We are also addressing the needs of those programs that currently use a paper-based data collection system to manage their patients,” added Rimmer.

An easy-to-use interface is being developed to facilitate patient management and at the same time deliver the core data elements to the registry. Working with a beta group and early adopters, Cissec and AACVPR will ensure that the effort required to enter data is well compensated by the reporting mechanisms.

The development of the AACVPR registry is already under way; the registry is targeted for release in May/June 2012.
