QHR to acquire Healthscreen’s software business

TORONTO – Deloitte & Touche Inc., in its capacity as court appointed receiver and manager of Healthscreen, announced that the bid submitted by 2293035 Ontario Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of QHR Technologies Inc. for all the assets associated with the software and electronic medical records operation of Healthscreen, was accepted by the Receiver subject only to Court Approval.

Healthscreen’s Physician’s Services Business has been sold to Physiomed Group Inc., a chain of wellness clinics with sites across Canada.

Based on the recommendation of the receiver, court approval is expected within the first two weeks of October, at which time QHR will take over the software business, including making offers of employment to a number of employees who are currently employed by Healthscreen.

Currently, Healthscreen has approximately 5,200 physicians utilizing its software products.

Details of the asset purchase agreement will be released once the court has approved the recommendation of the receiver.

Upon closing of the transaction, QHR through its subsidiaries, will be supporting over 9,000 physicians across Canada, making it the largest vendor in the Canadian EMR industry, the company said.

QHR now operates three business units in distinct markets:

The Enterprise Management Software (“EMS”) division specializes in workforce management software, which consists of integrated payroll, staff scheduling and human resource software, and in customized financial management software built on the Microsoft Dynamics GP platform. These products are targeted at complex healthcare, social services and public safety markets.

The Electronic Medical Records (“EMR”) division offers a suite of medical software modules that provides computer-based medical records for family physicians, medical specialists, and surgeons, as well as administrative modules for billing and patient scheduling, that is a key component of the move throughout Canada to provide electronic healthcare records for all Canadians.

The Hosting division specializes in EMR ASP Hosting solutions both on-site and off-site, which consist of custom application hosted solutions, exchange email hosting, office software packages, mobile messaging services, server archiving and many other custom solutions and services. These solutions are targeted at EMR clients looking for an enhanced ASP option, required by some provincial governments.

In a related development, MD Physician Services Software announced that it is introducing an EMR Migration Support Program in Ontario to financially assist physicians transitioning from their current EMR system to PS Suite EMR. MD is waiving migration fees and will not be charging upfront licence fees. Migration will include all clinical and demographic data ensuring minimal impact to physicians’ practices and patient care. In addition, MD is providing free clinical workflow consulting and system assessment.

Initially developed in response to numerous inquiries from Healthscreen clients left uncertain about the ongoing viability of their EMR systems, MD has extended the program in recognition of other EMR vendor viability concerns to any Ontario physician migrating from an existing CMS certified EMR.
