Sunquest acquires Elekta’s pathology system

TUCSON, Ariz. – Sunquest Information Systems, a leading provider of pathology information technology, announced it has acquired the PowerPath Anatomic Pathology Laboratory Information System (LIS) business of Sweden-based Elekta AB.

Sunquest already has leading LIS products in its Sunquest Lab and Sunquest CoPathPlus product lines, the company said. The PowerPath acquisition further solidifies Sunquest's position in the Anatomic Pathology LIS market.

“Sunquest’s commitment to Anatomic Pathology and serving the pathologist has created a natural fit for PowerPath within the Sunquest solution suite,” said Richard Atkin, CEO of Sunquest Information Systems. “Together, we will have an increased critical mass and expertise to meet the needs of the pathologist in this important and growing market. I am excited to welcome the PowerPath customers into the Sunquest family.”

Dr. John Gilbertson, Associate Chief of Pathology and Director of Pathology Informatics at Massachusetts General Hospital, said, “The combination of Sunquest and PowerPath is very exciting. It will strengthen the pathology IT market and uniquely position Sunquest to produce highly advanced LIS solutions.”

Chris Callahan, Vice President of Product Strategy at Sunquest, said, “This combination creates a strong market structure by combining the strengths of two successful teams under one pathology focused business.”

The transaction was completed on September 30, 2011 and integration activities are under way. Sunquest will be hosting a Client Webinar session on October 10th at 11am ET. For more information about the webinar and the acquisition in general visit www.SunquestInfo.com/PPAcquisition.
