York Central signs agreement for records scanning
RICHMOND HILL, Ont. – York Central Hospital (YCH) has announced an agreement in which Salumatics Inc., of Mississauga, Ont., will provide outsourced scanning of health records for all clinical areas of the hospital. The five-year agreement was reached as a result of a detailed tendering process, and is extendable by up to two years.
Converting their health records to digital format on a day-forward basis will allow YCH to integrate paper and electronic records, and provide seamless, secure electronic access to patients' information via the hospital's clinical information system.
Says Diane Salois-Swallow (pictured), Chief Information Officer for YCH: “We are very proud to be associated with Salumatics, a company that has deep vertical expertise and a vision to help hospitals reduce costs, be more efficient and create capacity for additional patient care initiatives.”
By outsourcing the records conversion process, YCH expects to reduce turn-around-times for inpatient scanning from 48 to 24 hours. In addition, capital equipment costs, equipment maintenance expenses, and space rental fees will be eliminated.
According to Allan Magnacca, President and CEO of Salumatics, “Salumatics has supplied remote coding and abstracting services to YCH since 2001. I am very pleased to extend our business relationship to include scanning, which will take place at our secure production facility in Mississauga.”
In a typical year at YCH, there are over four million record images scanned, documenting over 18,000 in-patient visits, 99,000 outpatient visits, and 80,000 emergency room visits.
