Ontario Shores and Healthtech win two awards

WHITBY, Ont. and TORONTO – Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences and Healthtech Consultants were double prize winners at Canadian Health Information Awards gala, receiving the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) Project Implementation Team of the Year and also the Project Patient Care Innovation Team of the Year.

These prestigious awards recognize a not-for-profit healthcare team and a for-profit healthcare ICT company that have successfully implemented an IT-health solution within a healthcare organization. Ontario Shores, together with Healthtech, were recognized on a national level for the implementation of our fully integrated electronic health record system.

“We are truly honoured to be recognized as a leader in information technology and health informatics,” said Karim Mamdani (pictured), Chief Operating Officer. “Our success lies in the remarkable work of our people, who designed and built a specialized system to meet the unique needs of patients receiving mental health care. Their vision and expertise enabled Ontario Shores to participate in advancing the future of healthcare.”

“This is a great testament to the wonderful partnership we have had with Ontario Shores and to the commitment and dedication of the Healthtech project teams involved during this great initiative,” said Susanne Flett, President of Healthtech. “Together we successfully demonstrated the use of technology to support quality patient care and clinical practice.”

Ontario Shores brought advanced clinical systems to its inpatient units using Meditech 6.0, and recently integrated the system with all outpatient and offsite locations and clinics. The hospital immediately saw benefits in terms of quality of care and patient safety.

Awards were presented at the 7th Annual Canadian Health Informatics Awards Gala, celebrating the outstanding achievements and excellence in the field of Canadian Health Informatics, as well as recognizing and honouring the contributions of individuals and companies in the efficient use of information technology to improve the health of all Canadians.

Alison MacDonald, Clinical Education Leader at Ontario Shores, received the 2011 Emerging Leader in Health Informatics Award from COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association for her role in the implementation of the electronic health record system.
