Emergis’ pharmacy software to be used
at U of T
TORONTO – The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy of the
University of Toronto will benefit from pharmacy software supplied by
Montreal-based Emergis Inc. The software will be used to teach graduate
and undergraduate students at the pharmacy school.
Through an exclusive agreement, Emergis is offering the Faculty’s
students the opportunity to experience real-world pharmacy situations by
supplying its pharmacy software and high-tech workstations until 2010.
The software and workstations, complete with computers, monitors and
printers, are set up in the Herbert R. Binder Shoppers Drug Mart
Professional Practice Laboratory, in the new Leslie L. Dan Pharmacy
Building, which was inaugurated in September.
“We are thankful to Emergis for its generous support of the professional
practice laboratory,” said Professor K. Wayne Hindmarsh, Dean of the
Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. “Emergis’ contribution adds to the
authenticity of the “real-life” scenarios set up for students to develop
pharmacy management skills. It is important for the Faculty to work with
private sector companies. With their input, we make sure that we are
training future pharmacists adequately to meet tomorrow’s pharmacy
market needs.”
Emergis’ portfolio of pharmacy management solutions is comprised of
software which are used by approximately 40% of pharmacies in Canada and
help pharmacists perform their laboratory tasks, such as patient file
management, drug dispensing, drug utilization review, drug inventories,
automated ordering and reporting, and printing of customized labels and
receipts.
“Emergis is honoured to be associated with forward-looking organizations
such as the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy and to contribute to the
learning experience of tomorrow’s pharmacists,” said Francois Gratton,
Senior Vice-President, Provider Solutions of Emergis. “Emergis values
its relationship with the pharmacy industry and is committed to pharmacy
training in Canada. We believe in the important role of companies such
as ours to contribute to the future of pharmacy professionals.”
By associating itself with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of
Pharmacy, Emergis further extends its involvement in pharmacy training
in Canada. The company has made similar contributions and funded other
sponsorships in the past, such as to the faculty of pharmacy of
Universite Laval, in Quebec City.
Founded in 1827, the University of Toronto is Canada’s largest
university. Ranked among Canada’s top research-intensive universities,
the U of T offers teaching programs in 17 academic divisions, including
pharmacy. The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy is the only faculty of
pharmacy in Ontario and the largest in Canada. It has recently moved
into the new Leslie L. Dan Pharmacy Building to offer Canadian and
international students new teaching labs and lecture halls, to support a
substantial increase in research activity and to accommodate a doubling
of the enrolment in pharmacy programs.
