TORONTO – The Ontario Hospital Association (OHA), in partnership with HIROC, BLG and Telus is pleased to present a one-day national event on cyber risk where attendees will learn the latest techniques and tools in the fight against cybercrime. The Cyber Risk National Conference will be held Monday, February 9, 2015 at the Renaissance Toronto Downtown Hotel.
During the 2014 Healthcare Insurance Reciprocal of Canada (HIROC) Annual General Meeting, 93% of HIROC members across Canada identified cyber risk as the #1 future risk that needs to be urgently addressed. The pervasiveness of available electronic information opens the door for healthcare organizations to become a target of cybercrime.
The need to implement and manage the right cyber-security governance structure across healthcare organizations is vital in mitigating the risk posed by cyber threats.
This event is a valuable opportunity to network and gain insights from experts in dealing with issues related to cybercrime. To allow for greater accessibility, this event is being offered as both an in-person conference and live webcast.
One of the speakers at the day-long event will be Brian Beamish (pictured), Acting Commissioner, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. Mr. Beamish will address the topic: Preventing Privacy Breaches and Building Confidence in Electronic Health Records – The Need for Tougher Penalties.
As well, there will be a panel discussion on Cyber Threats: Learning from Each Other, which will address topics such as: Operational processes including training and compliance; dangers of storing unencrypted patient information on personal laptops; phishing; identity theft/data loss.
