MARKHAM, Ont. – The Board of Hospital Diagnostic Imaging Repository Services (HDIRS) has announced the appointment of David Macdonald (pictured) as General Manager, effective October 1, 2014. “David Macdonald is very dedicated and talented with deep roots in the field of Diagnostic Imaging and business leadership,” said Mike Garvey, Chair of HDIRS Board of Directors.
David has been part of HDIRS since its inception in 2007/2008, most recently as Director of Operations. David has over 20 years of experience in healthcare, the last 14 years of which has been focused on healthcare informatics, primarily in the diagnostic imaging sector.
Prior to HDIRS, David worked at North York General Hospital, as well as at several technology vendors. David’s great depth of knowledge and track record of success position him well to deliver HDIRS’ organizational strategy and to drive value for HDIRS’ members and the broader healthcare community.
“I am looking forward to leading HDIRS to achieve our strategic and business goals, and I thank the HDIRS Board of Directors for placing their trust in me,” said Macdonald. David holds a Master of Business Administration from Heriot?Watt University, as well as a number of advanced IT industry certifications focused on organizational governance.
HDIRS, which is funded by Canada Health Infoway, eHealth Ontario, and 37 member hospitals, is managing the development, implementation and operation of a shared diagnostic imaging repository. By working together, the HDIRS members are achieving economies of scale and shared service benefits that could not have been realized independently. The HDIRS project, working collaboratively with eHealth Ontario, is contributing to the Canada Health Infoway mandate of developing an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for all Canadians.
