MHI deploys SeamlessMD to improve patient outcomes

Louis PerraultMONTREAL – The Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) has selected SeamlessMD’s enterprise platform for patient engagement and care management to reinforce its position as an industry leader for cardiac surgery, focused on safer recovery and higher patient satisfaction.

MHI is consistently ranked as one of the top cardiac centers in the world, and is Canada’s largest cardiac centre, performing over 1,900 cardiac surgeries annually.

Over the last year, MHI’s surgical team has helped develop new cardiac protocols to improve the patient experience and satisfaction. Adding to this innovation, patients undergoing cardiac surgery at MHI now have access to SeamlessMD, a free technology platform available on smartphones, tablets and computers to help patients and families prepare for surgery and stay on track during recovery.

The platform provides patients with timely reminders leading up to surgery, a daily check-in to track their progress after surgery (e.g. symptoms, pain levels), personalized feedback on how to care for themselves and a comprehensive education library with multimedia to help patients recover safely at home.

By better guiding patients throughout the entire journey through surgery, SeamlessMD will help reduce patient anxiety and make it easier for patients to follow their care plan.

SeamlessMD will also enable patients to stay in connect with their care team throughout the episode. The care team at MHI will be able to monitor the patients in real time, receive alerts for patients at-risk, and intervene sooner to prevent avoidable emergency room visits and hospital readmissions.

In addition, MHI will also use aggregate data collected on the platform to derive insights on how patients recover to help the hospital continuously improve the patient experience.

MHI is the first cardiac center in North America to use this technology.

“SeamlessMD helps our hospital accomplish key goals: Greater innovation, shorter recovery times and better patient experience,” said Louis P. Perrault, MD (pictured), chief of cardiac surgery at MHI and board member of the recently formed Enhanced Recovery After Cardiac Surgery Society (ERACS). “Recognizing the transition to value-based care for cardiac surgery, such as bundled payments, SeamlessMD will be a key partner of ours for improving the patient experience and clinical outcomes for cardiac surgery.”

“SeamlessMD is honoured to support the Montreal Heart Institute and their mission to stay on the cutting-edge as an international centre of excellence for cardiac surgery” said Joshua Liu, MD, CEO of SeamlessMD. “We are excited to attain new heights together and improve patient outcomes.”
