Imaging and lab expansion at Delta Hospital
April 8, 2015
DELTA, BC – Delta Hospital announced that a $12.5 million project will expand, enhance and relocate the hospital’s medical imaging and laboratory services departments into a single facility.
Once complete in 2018, the new two-storey space will allow for 32,000 more patient visits each year, in addition to making it easier for staff to treat patients and operate more efficiently.
“The expansion and improvement of diagnostic services at Delta Hospital will ensure medical staff can deliver the very best in patient care and ensure patients are receiving faster and more precise diagnoses and treatment,” said Michael Marchbank (pictured), president & CEO, Fraser Health.
The $12.5 million project is being funded by the community through the Delta Hospital Foundation’s commitment of $7.5 million, with the additional $5 million funded by the Province through Fraser Health.
The new addition will be named the Peter C. and Elizabeth Toigo Diagnostic Services Building, in honour of a $2.5 million donation from The Toigo family – through Shato Holdings Ltd.
“We are very grateful for the generosity of Shato Holdings Ltd. and the Toigo family, and their commitment to supporting community healthcare,” said Allan Baydala, chair of the Delta Hospital Foundation. “Shato Holdings Ltd. has been a generous and tireless champion of Delta Hospital. The support of our community is what makes this hospital work and their leadership is a tremendous example of community in action.”
Fraser Health, in partnership with the Delta Hospital Foundation and the Delta Hospital Auxiliary, completed a 20 year master plan for Delta Hospital in 2012. The plan’s short term priorities (one to five years) included the expansion of diagnostic imaging and laboratory services.
Shato Holdings Ltd. was founded by Peter C. Toigo in 1968. Peter C., his wife Elizabeth and their six children moved from Powell River to Tsawwassen in 1964 where much of the family still lives. The company is still family-run and is led by managing directors Ron and Peter Toigo Jr.
