Tyson Roffey joins Hitachi Data Systems

TORONTO – Marcel Escorcio, RVP and General Manager of Hitachi Data Systems Canada Inc., is pleased to announce the appointment of Tyson Roffey (pictured) as Head of Canadian Healthcare Solutions and Social Innovation. This new role was created to enable healthcare service providers better access to Hitachi’s wide set of innovative technologies and unique healthcare solutions.
By providing knowledge and support to the different service providers throughout the continuum of care, Hitachi aims to enable new research and create new partnerships. This in turn will result in social innovations that will continue to improve the Healthcare services provided to all patients within Canada.
Mr. Roffey has been a technology leader in healthcare for the past 20 years, serving in both the public and private sectors. His diverse background includes the development of hardware and software, implementing electronic health records systems, tackling complex privacy issues, and development of new lines of business.
Prior to joining HDS Canada, he served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO) at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, as well as, the CIO, Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) and VP Innovation at Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa, supporting all healthcare providers so that they could access information when and where they needed it, in a safe and secure manner.
Mr. Roffey is also a Program Instructor at the Schulich School of Business at York University. His module IT in Healthcare provides future healthcare leaders with the knowledge necessary to excel in their field.
He has published extensively in the areas of privacy and strategic planning within the hospital environment and is often called upon to speak to those issues. Mr Roffey remains a member in good standing of the International Association of Privacy Professionals with his CIPP/IT certification, is a member of the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA), Mobile Health Advisory Board and is a member of the Digital Health Program Advisory Committee at Algonquin College, designed to build the required capacity of future Health IT professionals to support the industry.
Recognized for his commitment to youth development, he is a coach and trainer in minor hockey and a past board member of Ronald McDonald House.
