HEALTHe NL adds viewer, expands access
January 23, 2014
ST. JOHN’S, NL – HEALTHe NL, the provincial electronic health record initiative that is being rolled out by the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NLCHI), has announced the addition of the HEALTHe NL Viewer, powered by Orion Health’s Clinical Portal.
The Viewer enables more healthcare professionals to access medication profiles and to see more complete patient information when needed, improving the quality of care. Moving forward, the HEALTHe NL Viewer will begin to include other relevant clinical information and records pulled in from other EHR systems, providing an even more complete offering of patient information at the click of a button.
“The technology we now have in place allows us to create a more patient-centric healthcare environment,” said Mike Barron (pictured), CEO, Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information. “The enhanced access to quality health information supports timely and more informed healthcare decision-making across our healthcare system.”
The Orion Health solution that will be delivered to NLCHI as part of its HEALTHe NL initiative is made of three core products:
- Clinical Portal: an EHR Desktop Viewer that provides a single point of access to view patient information using a secure web-based clinician portal;
- Clinical Data Repository: enables the creation and maintenance of a secure, single patient record that can be securely accessed and updated by hospital clinicians, administrators and authorized external users and;
- Rhapsody Integration Engine: integrates existing information systems within a region and connects to other regional networks and private laboratories.
“We are proud to be a continued part of Newfoundland and Labrador’s efforts to implement an effective, province-wide EHR solution,” said Gary Folker, Senior Vice President of Orion Health Canada. “We’ve known our technology has what it takes to support and improve quality patient care, but now we are able to demonstrate that ability through the NLCHI system’s success.”
