Cedars-Sinai receives Stage 7 Award from HIMSS
March 19, 2014
CHICAGO – HIMSS Analytics announced that Cedars-Sinai Health System, located in Los Angeles, Calif., has received the Stage 7 Award. The award represents attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM), which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems.
HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database.
There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment. The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.
During the fourth quarter of 2013, 2.9 percent, of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database, received the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award.
“As an organization always focused on providing the highest quality care for our patients, electronic health records and information technology are an increasingly important tool for Cedars-Sinai’s patients, physicians, nurses and other health care professionals,” said Thomas M. Priselac (pictured), president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai Health System. “This award recognizes the achievements of everyone at Cedars-Sinai in using information technology to further enhance the care we provide to each patient.”
Cedars-Sinai Health System, which includes a world-renowned 886-bed academic medical centre, research institutes, a medical group and an independent physician association, and medical residency and fellowship training programs, is an independent, private, not-for-profit organization, with a well-earned reputation for quality and innovation.
“Cedars-Sinai is one of the most fully deployed and automated facilities we have encountered in the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 program,” said John Hoyt, FACHE, FHIMSS, executive vice president, HIMSS Analytics. “With all of their progress on device integration, including fully integrated smart pumps, Cedars has approached a new level of patient safety, even among Stage 7 facilities. The patient community that Cedars Sinai serves is very lucky to have their leadership and vision in place to drive continual quality and safety through IT adoption.
Cedars-Sinai Health System will be recognized at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition on April 12-16, 2015, in Chicago, Ill. Visit the HIMSS Analytics Web site for more information on the Stage 7 award.
