Sunnybrook opts for integration engine from Orion Health

July 9, 2014

Oliver Tsai

TORONTO – Orion Health, a leader in electronic health records (EHR) and healthcare integration solutions, announced that Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has selected the Rhapsody Integration Engine to replace its legacy integration engine.

The new solution will respond to the growing challenges of connecting the hospital and supporting its mission of delivering a patient-centric care model. It will enable Sunnybrook to further integrate its many internal and external systems, increase its network visibility and streamline processes to support the healthcare practitioners’ goal of improving patient care.

The new platform will help ensure the hospital’s integration engine is secure, supported and easy-to-use. Rhapsody’s intuitive and user-centered interface will contribute to higher adoption levels of the technology and improved security of sensitive data.

“The healthcare industry continues to change and evolve at a rapid pace,” said Oliver Tsai (pictured), Director, Information Technology, Sunnybrook Health Sciences. “The Rhapsody integration engine is robust technology that has helped us easily transition to a customized, easy-to-use and better-connected health system. The value of the improved connectivity is huge, as we can better care for patients and engage them further in their own healthcare.”

With Rhapsody, Sunnybrook is now able to better manage the millions of messages per month that cross its network. The agnostic technology is the easiest way for the healthcare facility to achieve interoperability between disparate IT systems.

An integration engine is a key component of health reform that enables better access and sharing of information between healthcare providers, patients and healthcare institutions. Acting as the backbone inside a healthcare facility, it enables more efficient and effective access to clinical data.

In addition to its interface, security and support systems, Orion Health’s Rhapsody integration engine boasts a variety of features that benefit hospitals such as:

  • simplified standards support,
  • integrated lookup tables,
  • guaranteed message delivery,
  • a fully customizable system,
  • reliable and scalable,
  • easy to update legacy systems and transition more easily to new technology.

“We’re seeing a shift in the Canadian healthcare system, especially when it comes to acquiring data,” said Gary Folker, SVP and Country Manager for Orion Health Canada. “Facilities like Sunnybrook are recognizing that an effective integration engine like Rhapsody will allow them to not only update systems today, but essentially help to future-proof their organizations and continue to evolve alongside the healthcare system.”
