Susan Mumme

New board chair, directors announced at CPSI

February 18, 2015

EDMONTON – The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) announced that Susan Mumme (pictured) has been appointed as the new Chair for CPSI’s Board of Directors. Susan will be joined by five new members around the CPSI board table: Alberta Health Services CEO Vickie Kaminski, Health PEI CEO Dr. Richard Wedge, BC Ministry of Health Assistant Deputy Minister Doug Hughes, Yukon Department of Health and Social Services Assistant Deputy Minister Cathy Morton-Bielz, and College of Pharmacists of Manitoba Registrar Ronald Guse.

“On behalf of everyone at CPSI, I’d like to welcome Susan as Board Chair and the newest additions to our Board of Directors,” says Maura Davies, Acting CEO of CPSI. “We’re thrilled to have attracted such talented professionals and look forward to the passion and energy they’ll bring to our organization.”

Ms. Mumme brings extensive experience in healthcare as a frontline caregiver, leader of clinical programs and support services and as a quality leader and senior executive with Alberta Health Services. She has also worked extensively on the integration of health services at both the regional and provincial level. She has a passion for continuous improvement in service delivery and quality and safety of patient care. Prior to this appointment, she served as vice-chair of CPSI’s Board of Directors.

“I’m honoured to be given the opportunity to not only continue to work with CPSI, but to take on a much larger role as Board Chair,” said Ms. Mumme. “The safety and quality of the Canadian healthcare system are paramount and CPSI is well-positioned to work with our partners to ensure Canadians receive the safest care in the world. “

The announcement follows the earlier recruitment of Chris Power as CEO of the CPSI. Ms. Power was formerly the CEO of Capital Health in Nova Scotia, an organization with 12,000 staff and an annual operating budget of approximately $900 million.

The Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI) was established in 2003 as an independent not-for-profit corporation, operating collaboratively with health professionals and organizations, regulatory bodies and governments to build and advance a safer healthcare system for Canada.
