Dr. Sarah Muttitt appointed CIO at Sick Kids

June 3, 2015

TORONTO – The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Sarah Muttitt (pictured) to the position of Chief Information Officer and Vice President of the Information Management and Technology portfolio at SickKids, effective July 2015.

Having trained at SickKids and served as a Senior Fellow in Neonatology in the late 1980s, Dr. Muttitt possesses more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry with a clinical background in paediatrics and neonatology. She went on to become a Staff Neonatologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Alberta from 1989 – 1993.

She has successfully led large-scale healthcare transformation and information technology initiatives both in Canada and in Asia.

Dr. Muttitt has provided leadership for telehealth initiatives across Canada and served as Vice President, Innovation and Adoption at Canada Health Infoway.

From 2007 – 2012, she was the Chief Information Officer of the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Singapore, responsible for the development and delivery of a national healthcare IT strategy in support of the MOH key priorities.

This included the implementation of Singapore’s National Electronic Health Record and supporting services such as Enterprise Architecture, Standards, Identity and Security, and Clinical Informatics. Her work expanded to include Community Hospital and GP EMR implementation and Consumer Health for telehealth, personal health management and national call centre services.

Dr. Muttitt returned to Canada in 2013 to join Alberta Health Services and lead the Provincial Clinical Information System program, which is currently under way.

She was appointed Chief Medical Information Officer in October 2013, also assuming responsibility for Health Information Management and Clinical Informatics. She currently serves as an “Innovator in Residence” at the Ivey International Centre for Health Innovation.

Dr. Muttitt graduated with a degree in Medicine at the University of Alberta and completed a Masters of Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at the University of Western Ontario.
