Mackenzie Health adopts Rhapsody integration engine

December 14, 2016

Gary-FolkerTORONTO – Orion Health announced that Mackenzie Health, based in Richmond Hill, Ont., has selected the company’s Rhapsody Integration Engine to better connect existing solutions and to build interfaces to new systems in an efficient and timely manner.

“As we began planning for our new Electronic Medical Record, we realized that the healthcare information system needed to accommodate both rapidly evolving and legacy technology,” said Sharon MacSween, director, clinical informatics, Mackenzie Health. “Rhapsody has proven that it has the ability to address both of these issues, and improve the overall efficiency of hospital systems.”

Rhapsody will enable Mackenzie Health to fully deploy the new Epic EMR and to achieve integration with complementary systems. The integration engine will support the existing needs of over 100 interfaces currently active at Mackenzie Health, including the Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS); it will also ease the development of new interfaces.

“Since going live February 2016, the engine has already facilitated the quick creation of interfaces, including an impressive four interfaces within three weeks,” said MacSween. “Using an interface engine of this caliber allows us to enhance patient care by sending information to family physician offices electronically. That has shortened turnaround time for results and eliminates manual intervention.”

“Rhapsody has the ability to drastically scale to accommodate growth of 100 percent in interfaces and 200 percent in message volume,” said Gary Folker (pictured), EVP for Orion Health in North America. “This means the engine can provide Mackenzie Health with the ability to accommodate both patient-centred care and overall population health management.”

An integration engine is a key component of healthcare delivery and has the ability to provide better access and secure sharing of information between healthcare providers, patients and healthcare institutions. Rhapsody is a robust, comprehensive and powerful back-end integration engine which is designed to carry out rapid interoperability between healthcare IT systems, regardless of the technology or the standards.

It is reliable and scalable, making it easier for healthcare organizations to both use as a starting point as a new system or to update legacy systems and transition more easily to new solutions. According to Orion Health, Rhapsody is also the first integration engine to support FHIR and can implement the new HL7® FHIR® standard.
