Grand River goes live with Wellsoft EDIS

July 19, 2017

Jill SchitkaKITCHENER, Ont. – Grand River Hospital has successfully implemented Wellsoft Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) in the hospital’s Lazaridis Family Foundation Emergency Department (ED).

The Wellsoft EDIS was customized and integrated with the existing HIS to better meet the needs of patients and clinicians, improve productivity and efficiency, and further modernize the hospital’s fast-paced ED that delivers services to nearly 70,000 patients a year. The system will also integrate with a future HIS implementation.

A comprehensive EDIS and electronic health record (EHR), Wellsoft EDIS is said to streamline the entire process from pre-admission through final disposition. The features implemented at GRH include patient tracking, clinical documentation (with scanning, photos, diagrams and dictation), CPOE, Lab and Medical Imaging results reporting, charge capture, multiple HL7 interfaces, and support for CTAS and CEDIS requirements.

The system also accommodates two kiosks for both EMS and patient walk-ins supporting provincial health card readers, as well as discharge instructions in five languages.

“GRH is dedicated to providing the best patient care to our community through the utilization of best practices and solutions,” said Jill Schitka (pictured), emergency department program director at Grand River Hospital. “With the emergency department being the front door to our hospital – and with the number of emergency room visits continuing to climb – we know how critical having the right ED system is to the performance of our hospital.

“With Wellsoft EDIS, we are already seeing a positive impact on the efficiency of our ED department, and are confident it will also help us continue to boost patient safety, physician and patient satisfaction, and care quality.”

Dr. John Santmann, president of Wellsoft Corporation, commented, “GRH is a top-ranked hospital in Canada that has been recognized for being one of the safest hospitals and for having one of the best emergency wait times in Ontario. We are excited to further expand our footprint in Canada with a hospital of this caliber that is dedicated to providing the highest quality patient care.”
