Rayence wins DR panel contract in Nunavut

July 19, 2017

Mark LittleIQALUIT, Nunavut – The government of Nunavut has awarded a contract for digital radiographic detector panels to be installed at its 23 healthcare facilities. The contract was awarded to Rayence Canada, a division of Rayence USA, in strategic alliance with CMI Calico Medical (Ontario) and Nuon Imaging (Alberta).

Initial installations are to begin this month, in July 2017, in Iqaluit, capital city of Nunavut, with all upgrades scheduled for completion by March 2018.

Competing against DR industry leaders, the Rayence/CMI/Nuon joint RFP was selected as the successful proponent. Rayence will provide all DR imaging hardware and related accessories, while Nuon will provide software support along with CMI providing service.

Nunavut, “Our land” in native Inuktitut, comprises most of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago and is spread across an area just over 680,000 square miles, roughly the size of Western Europe It is one of the world’s most remote and sparsely inhabited areas having a population of only about 36,000. The indigenous Inuit comprise more than four-fifths of Nunavut’s population and speak mainly Inuktitut followed by English, French, and Inuinnaqtun.

Rayence 1417WCC flat panel detectors feature a light-weight (6.6 lb./3 kg), carbon fiber unibody design that is scratch resistant, making them well-suited for the most demanding imaging environments, the companies said. Utilizing a combination of proprietary TFT glass and Cesium Iodide scintillators with a 127 micron pixel pitch, the 1417WCC delivers exceptionally sharp, high-quality images.

“This is an exciting project to have Rayence involved in a territory-wide rollout,” said Mark Little (pictured), Rayence Canada sales manager. “Knowing the market, especially the logistics in and out of Nunavut, was key,” he added.
