August 23, 2017
SUDBURY, Ont. – FedNor and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund are investing in a new technology platform to help Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI) improve access to electronic health records in the north. It will also encourage entrepreneurs and industry professionals to pursue product development opportunities within the healthcare sector.
MP Paul Lefebvre, MP Marc Serré and Minister, Glenn Thibeault announced $200,000 in funding for the development of PHEONICS, an information sharing system to house a research and development network.
Data will be gathered about Northern Ontario and Indigenous communities to ensure that northern needs are reflected. Communities, researchers, clinicians and entrepreneurs will be consulted to determine the composition of the technology platform.
PHEONICS will allow for collaboration between researchers, health care professionals, patients, health organizations and business to increase health outcomes.
Congratulations to the research team at Health Sciences North Research Institute for their continued focus on contributing to sustainable solutions to the health challenges faced by Ontario’s Northern and Indigenous communities.
