PrescribeIT is gaining momentum
November 1, 2017
TORONTO – PrescribeIT, Canada’s national e-prescribing service, announced it is now working with 20 community pharmacy companies in six provinces, with the participation of more than 3,300 pharmacies.
The provinces with which PrescribeIT has reached agreements are Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
In August 2017, PrescribeIT went live in Huntsville, Ont., with Remedy’s Rx Muskoka Medical Centre Pharmacy and two doctors with the Algonquin Family Health Team.
This was quickly followed by two pharmacy locations and two doctors in Kingston, Ontario (Frontenac Medical Clinic & Associates and Frontenac Medical Pharmacy/Lovell Drugs). Another site will be launching soon in the Niagara Region of Ontario.
“The continued roll-out and strong response from prescribers and pharmacists and the obvious patient safety benefits of the service, reinforce the need, and desire for a national e-prescribing service – and that’s what we’re doing with PrescribeIT,” said Michael Green (pictured), president and CEO, Canada Health Infoway.
“With the most recent launches, and more happening soon, I am excited to see how PrescribeIT is changing the face of healthcare in Canada.”
About PrescribeIT
Canada Health Infoway is working with Health Canada, the provinces and territories, and industry stakeholders to develop, operate and maintain the national e-prescribing service known as PrescribeIT. PrescribeIT will serve all Canadians, pharmacies and prescribers and provide safer and more effective medication management by enabling prescribers to transmit a prescription electronically between a prescriber’s electronic medical record (EMR) and the pharmacy management system (PMS) of a patient’s pharmacy of choice. PrescribeIT will also help improve patient safety, reducing harm and costs associated with opioid misuse, while also protecting Canadians’ personal health information from being sold or used for commercial activities.
