Canada.ai aggregates news about artificial intelligence

February 21, 2018

Graham Taylor

TORONTO – A group of Canada’s top artificial intelligence institutions have launched Canada.ai, a web platform to showcase Canada’s leadership in the field of artificial intelligence. Canada.ai will serve as a hub of information about the research being done in Canada, the leading startups and companies in the AI space, and events happening across the country.

Canada is a world leader in the field of artificial intelligence, host to top AI researchers, institutions, and startup companies. Canada.ai will serve as a place to share news and developments about advances.

The platform was unveiled Toronto at TechTO, one of Canada’s largest technology meet-up events. The announcement was made by NEXT Canada, the Toronto-based organization whose NextAI program helps innovators commercialize technology.

NEXT Canada served as Canada.ai’s primary builder, in collaboration with community champions Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), Borealis AI, Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR), Creative Destruction Lab, Element AI, Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms (MILA) and Vector Institute.

“It’s no secret that artificial intelligence in Canada has reached a tipping point, and it’s more important than ever that we as Canadians shine a spotlight on our stories,” said Graham Taylor (pictured), academic director of NextAI and associate professor of engineering at the University of Guelph and the Vector Institute. “The platform is a place for everyone in the AI community to share and take pride in our accomplishments.”

“Canada is home to several of the world’s most advanced AI organizations and companies, operating across the country, from Montreal to Vancouver,” said Jean-Francois Gagné, co-founder and CEO of Element AI. “Canada.ai provides a space to celebrate all of those organizations and highlight wins as a community.

“Together, we can continue to push the boundaries of what Canada can accomplish with artificial intelligence, and secure our position as a leading force in the industry.”

The Canada.ai platform aggregates top Canadian AI news, pulling stories from media partners such as BetaKit, Techvibes and Digital Journal, and other Canadian publications such as The Globe and Mail, Financial Post and CBC News. Canada.ai will also feature posts directly from Canada’s AI researchers and institutes.

Canada.ai also features a comprehensive directory of the growing artificial intelligence landscape in Canada, listing the organizations researching, developing and commercializing AI in the space. The site will also include a timeline of the history of AI in Canada, and a comprehensive calendar of AI-focused events happening across the country.

Organizations who wish to be listed on Canada.ai’s directory can submit their company through the site. The online platform will also be accepting content from organizations, startups and individual researchers and domain experts. If you have a piece of news that you would like to share on Canada.ai, you can submit it by visiting www.canada.ai.
