Dr. Rina Carlini joins Cloud DX as president

KITCHENER, Ont. – Rina Carlini, Ph.D. (pictured), has been appointed president at Cloud DX. The company, based in Kitchener, Ontario and with U.S. headquarters in New York, develops leading-edge medical devices and offers an integrated, cloud-based software platform for remote patient monitoring.
Cloud DX has received numerous awards, including 2015 Ontario Startup of the Year for Innovation, 2017 CIX Top 20, and was the recipient of the 2017 Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE ‘Bold Epic Innovator Award’ for their Vitaliti platform, inspired by the famous tricorder device from Star Trek.
Cloud DX is also completing two separate projects funded by the Ontario Centres of Excellence Health Technology Fund, one at Markham Stouffville Hospital and the other at McMaster’s Population Health Research Institute.
Rina was most recently president and CEO of the Haltech Regional Innovation Centre, one of 18 regional innovation centres across the province of Ontario.
Haltech works with tech companies in Halton Region and across the GTA who are looking to accelerate innovation and grow their business. The organization has helped more than 700 tech companies develop and scale their businesses.
Rina’s professional experience spans over 20 years of work in technology innovation, commercialization, and developing new ventures across diverse technology sectors that include advanced materials and process manufacturing, nanotechnology, cleantech, and life sciences.
She has held various technical and leadership roles in pharmaceutical drug discovery (Merck-Frosst, Syntex), Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology (Xerox), directed a global technology incubator program (Xerox), and in cleantech as Director of Commercial Development at GreenCentre Canada. She also established a technology innovation consulting firm that worked with SME companies and non-profit organizations to accelerate business development and product commercialization.
Rina’s credentials include a Ph.D. (Faculty of Science) and Alumni of Honour from University of Waterloo, and certification in Business Model Innovation (Harvard University), Executive Management from McMaster University’s DeGroote School of Business, and Lean Six Sigma Design for Innovation. She also serves on several Advisory Boards and funding grant committees including Waterloo Institute for Nanotechnology, DeGroote School of Business Executive Education, NSERC, CFI and Ontario Centres of Excellence.
