Scarborough & Rouge adopts Dash MD app

June 7, 2018

Scarborough and Rouge

TORONTO – Scarborough and Rouge Hospital announced that its three emergency departments are now using the Dash MD app to provide patients and their families with information about the EDs, as well as follow-up information and instructions to improve post-discharge care.

Dash MD has a number of features that can help patients during and after their ED visit, including:

  • Information about the hospital (i.e., what to expect while in the ED, services available onsite, and other hospital FAQs);
  • Links to supplementary care providers in the community, such as pharmacies, physiotherapists, and family health teams;
  • Medication, task, and appointment reminders; and,
  • A survey link to provide real-time feedback.

“Implementing the Dash MD app builds on our culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and delivering the very best patient experience within the EDs,” said Nancy Veloso, patient care director of the Medicine and Emergency programs at Scarborough and Rouge Hospital.

The Dash MD app can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Once the app is downloaded, users can search for “Scarborough and Rouge Hospital.”

Using Dash MD, patients can improve their after-discharge outcomes by accessing aftercare content on the app. This can be very useful, as during hospital stays, patients and families often feel overloaded by the medical language and information they receive.

Having an online resource afterwards, with instructions for the patient, can result in better medical outcomes and improved patient satisfaction.

In addition to the Scarborough and Rouge Hospital system, Dash MD has been implemented by nine hospitals in Ontario and has partnerships with 30 hospitals across the country.
