Auxita’s free medical tech can make an impact

May 22, 2019

Barry Dworkin

OTTAWA – Medical technologies often promise to address challenges faced by clinics, including patient flow, efficiency, and care quality. However, issues like cost, risk, and long onboarding processes make many tools prohibitive to healthcare providers.

For Meadowlands Family Health Center, the solution was simple: free or low-cost technologies that integrate directly with their EMR. One of the clinic’s favourite new tools is Auxita, a completely free platform which turns patient data into predictive graphs and charts using the latest and most relevant clinical guidelines.

Meadowlands Family Health Center was able to install and onboard Auxita within minutes. The Ottawa-based practice has now been using Auxita for two years and has seen a huge difference in patient care and communication.

“In seconds, I can see how my patient is progressing and can clarify the best pathway forward,” said Dr. Barry Dworkin (pictured), a family physician at Meadowlands. “When the dashboard is up, and my patients see it, they get great visual feedback on how well they’re doing.

“It’s very straight-forward. It’s a dashboard. Everything I need is at my fingertips.”

Auxita (www.auxita.com) integrates with the workflow of a busy clinic. The tool was built in partnership with healthcare providers, and its many features are a direct result of feedback from doctors, nurses, and administrators. Along with data visualizations and guideline analysis, Auxita also provides custom alerts about relevant incentives and patient support programs.

“Once installed, it works quietly in the background,” said Dworkin. “It automatically updates me about my diabetes patients with the latest lab results, and the dates they were done. By looking at these results, I can quickly see whether or not a medication is working.

“It’s great to see technology companies altering their business models so we can access these tools for free.”

Auxita’s revenue comes from industry partners looking to simplify healthcare providers’ access to relevant programs, such as clinical trials. The platform alerts users to opportunities for patients and allows them to enroll directly, however, there is no obligation to do so. The software’s neutrality ensures the selection of programs and guidelines remains unbiased.

Like many healthcare professionals, saving time is a huge priority for Dr. Dworkin. He says that Auxita’s EMR integration and quick calculations make the tool a huge time-saver.

“If I can save one to two minutes per patient throughout the day, that savings amounts to hours every week. Saving this amount of time has made a huge impact in the operation of our clinic and my own quality of life.”

Auxita works seamlessly with OSCAR EMR and integrations are currently underway to expand its use to other EMRs.
