Fujifilm to acquire Hitachi’s DI business
December 18, 2019
TOKYO – Fujifilm Holdings Corp. announced it will acquire Hitachi Ltd.’s diagnostic imaging equipment business for about ¥170 billion. The move comes as Fujifilm is strengthening its medical-related businesses, while Hitachi has been seeking to sell the imaging equipment business as part of its group restructuring.
Fujifilm is one of the world’s largest suppliers of systems to manage diagnostic imaging data using electronic systems. The company estimates sales at its healthcare division, including medical information technology operations, will be ¥520 billion for the year through March 2020, and aims to boost the figure to ¥1 trillion by the mid-2020s.
The deal with Hitachi, to be completed by July 2020, allows the Japanese photocopier and camera manufacturer to deepen its push into healthcare as growth at its legacy photocopy business slows.
