myHealthHub Connections connects patients securely

June 10, 2020

HealthHub logoMISSISSAUGA, ON – During today’s COVID-19 pandemic, patients in hospitals are facing increased challenges. Isolated from families and friends, patients are experiencing higher rates of loneliness, fear, anxiety and boredom.

As a result, many hospitals in Canada are seeking video chat solutions to keep patients connected with loved ones at home.

Some hospitals have turned to consumer solutions like iPads and Zoom. However, since these solutions weren’t designed for Canadian hospitals, they create new challenges of their own – like privacy and security risks, an increased burden put on nurses, and financial waste due to lost or stolen items.

At HealthHub, we’ve rapidly responded to this by introducing a new patient chat solution, called myHealthHub Connections. myHealthHub Connections connects patients to their loved ones (through an app called Family Chat), as well as to their healthcare providers (through Virtual Rounds), easily, securely and sustainably.

Designed specifically for Canadian hospitals, myHealthHub Connections offers the following benefits not found elsewhere:

  1. No account creation – Most video chat solutions require patients to setup or login to an account. This puts an additional burden on nurses, who are relied on to help. myHealthHub Connections requires no account setup. Instead, it uses a unique bed/patient ID, which loved ones at home can enter into the video chat window to place a direct call. The patient can then accept or decline the call. The process is quick and easy, with no accounts, names or identifiable information needed.
  2. End to end encryption and zero collection of personal information – As hospital leaders know, personal and health information is heavily regulated in Canada. myHealthHub Connections is designed to be compliant with these requirements, meaning no video chat data leaves the hospital’s network (unlike other solutions, where information usually passes through servers in the US), no personal identifiable information is collected or stored, and the solution is protected using end-to-end encryption and additional security layers.
  3. Equitable patient access to healthcare technology – Many patients don’t have technology or data plans adequate for frequent video chat and increased usage during visitor restrictions. myHealthHub operates on a bedside touchscreen, making it more accessible and reducing the need to bring a personal device to the hospital. Equitable access to technology helps keep patients connected and informed and improves the patient experience.
  4. Sustainable and scalable solution – COVID-19 is forever changing how hospitals operate and is fast-tracking the need for digital health transformation. Not only is myHealthHub Connections quick to deploy – meeting immediate needs – but it also offers a long-term, scalable solution. By being delivered on the broader myHealthHub platform, patients can also benefit from a wide range of patient entertainment and engagement apps.

When looking for a patient video chat solution, not all technology is created equally. And, more importantly, not all options are purpose-built for Canadian hospitals. To learn more about myHealthHub Connections, visit healthhubsolutions.ca/covid-solutions.
