Facilities

Canada’s largest private medical clinic in the works

July 14, 2021

Jeff WarfordWHITBY, Ont. – Ground has been broken on a new medical facility in Whitby, east of Toronto, which is expected to be Canada’s largest private multidisciplinary medical group practice. The Oshawa Clinic Group is building the facility, a four-storey, 154,000 square foot healthcare centre that’s expected to open in 2024.

Officials say it will be home to multiple doctors, including specialists and family physicians, and will also feature a walk-in urgent care centre.

Through the new Whitby Health Centre, patients will be able to access a wide range of non-acute healthcare services, like cardiology, physiotherapy, audiology, psychology, fertility and men’s health.

There will also be a sleep clinic, diagnostic imaging centre, on-site lab and more.

The state-of-the-art facility will employ 350 people and will help 85 physicians better serve patients across the region.

“As our town continues to grow, it is important that our residents have convenient access to a wide range of healthcare services close to home,” said Whitby Mayor Don Mitchell. “We are pleased to see the clinic break ground in our town and look forward to the facility’s opening in 2024.”

“This new modern medical facility will enable us to provide expanded healthcare services to patients across Durham Region for many years,” added Jeff Warford (pictured), CEO of the Oshawa Clinic Group. “We are thankful for the efforts of the Ministry of Transportation who helped facilitate our acquisition of an adjacent parcel of land to enable this project to come to fruition.”

Over the next 11 years, Whitby’s population is expected to grow by more than 40 per cent. The new medical building will employ 350 people and provide one-stop convenience for the majority of non-acute healthcare needs. It will be open 364 days of the year.
