Ontario Shores achieves AMAM from HIMSS

October 6, 2021

Karim Mamdani 2020WHITBY, Ont. – Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) has been recognized by the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for its work in implementing the Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM) and reaching a Stage 6 level of achievement.

AMAM Stage 6 focuses on ensuring the organization has a robust analytics infrastructure, strong data governance, and clear analytics focus and direction. During the two-day virtual validation visit, Ontario Shores was able to demonstrate that it has the strategy, governance, technology, and culture needed to perform broad and robust descriptive and diagnostic analytics across the operational, financial, and clinical areas of the organization.

“I am incredibly proud of the excellence, leadership and teamwork that took place to achieve this international recognition, especially as we continue to manage the day to day impacts of a global pandemic,” said Karim Mamdani (pictured), president and CEO. “This achievement is a testament to the incredible commitment of our leaders and staff to provide the best care possible to our patients.”

This prestigious achievement reflects Ontario Shores’ continued commitment to ensuring the highest quality of care is met using electronic medical records (EMR) and optimizing its data analytics to improve patient outcomes.

Ontario Shores is the second hospital in Canada to achieve Stage 6 recognition for AMAM and continues to focus on building predictive and prescriptive analytics capabilities to drive improved patient care and service delivery.

“Ontario Shores has demonstrated a strong commitment and success with advancing a culture of analytics. From the president and CEO to the front lines of care, descriptive and diagnostic analytics are available to support clinical and operational teams. The Data and Analytics team has developed solutions and nurtured a culture of analytics to better serve the patients of Ontario Shores,” said James E. Gaston, senior director, HIMSS.

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is a global organization that is committed to transforming the healthcare system through information and technology.

Ontario Shores has been working with HIMSS for a number of years as we have progressed through the implementation and adoption of our Electronic Medical Record system that led to first achieving EMRAM Stage 7 designation in 2014 and then revalidation in 2017 and 2020.
