Winners of the 2021 Digital Health Canada Awards

Digital Health Canada 2021TORONTO – Digital Health Canada has announced the winners of the 2021 Digital Health Canada Awards. Following is a list of the winners in each of the following six award categories.

1. Digital Health Executive of the Year recognizes up to three individual executives (representing director level and up) whose outstanding contributions as a leader have helped advance digital health or virtual health in Canada.

2021 Digital Health Executive of the Year:

  • David Helliwell, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Thrive Health
  • Joshua Liu, Founder and CEO, Seamless MD
  • Alisa Simon, Executive Vice President, Chief Youth and Innovation Officer, Kids Help Phone

2. Digital Health Leader of the Year recognizes up to three individual leaders (non-executive leader within their department or organization) whose outstanding ongoing contributions have helped advance digital health or virtual health in Canada.

2021 Digital Health Leader of the Year:

  • Kimberly Ramirez, Senior Manager and Integration Architect, Clinical Systems, TransForm Shared Service Organization

3. Clinical Innovator of the Year recognizes up to three individual clinical innovators who have shown outstanding leadership in Canada in advancing the use of digital health or virtual health in clinical practice, resulting in improved provider and patient experiences and outcomes.

2021 Clinical Innovator of the Year:

  • Dr. Tony Meriano, Chief Medical Information Officer – TransForm Shared Service Organization

4. Community Care Leader of the Year recognizes up to three individual community care leaders who have shown outstanding leadership in Canada in advancing the use of digital health or virtual health, resulting in improved provider and patient experiences and outcomes.

2021 Community Care Leader of the Year:

  • Paul Young, Administrator for Prince County Hospital, Health PEI

5. Emerging Leader of the Year recognizes up to three individual emerging leaders who are in the first seven years of their digital health or virtual health career and have clearly demonstrated leadership and achieved early success.

2021 Emerging Leader of the Year:

  • Shy Amlani, Provincial Director, Virtual Health, Alberta Health Services
  • Naima Salemohamed, Management Consultant, Gevity part of Accenture
  • Sheridan Cook, Management Consultant, Gevity part of Accenture

6.Start-up Innovator of the Year recognizes three start-up innovators who have clearly demonstrated leadership and innovation and whose outstanding contribution has advanced digital health or virtual health in Canada.

2021 Start-up Innovator of the Year:

  • Dr. Ryan Doherty, President and Founder, EMPOWER Health
  • Don Watts, CEO, Khure Health
  • Alec McCauley, President and Chief Technology Officer, Thrive Health

Digital Health Canada Award nominations are reviewed by a volunteer team of adjudicators. Nominations are first assessed for eligibility and then ranked using an objective scoring system based on established nomination criteria. This year’s adjudicators include Chris Carvalho (Carveira Group); Emily Hogan (KPMG); Gillian Strudwick (CAMH); Margie Kennedy (Gevity part of Accenture); Martin Ducharme (Alaya Care); and Sayeh Radpay (HumanisRx).
