Stantec to design Trillium Health hospital expansion

January 12, 2022

George BitsakakisETOBICOKE, Ont. – Stantec, a global design and engineering consultancy, has been selected as prime consultant on the new Queensway Health Centre on Trillium Health Partners’ (THP) Queensway campus in Etobicoke, ON. The Edmonton-based firm will provide architectural, interior design, and building and civil engineering services for the new hospital building, which will be connected to THP’s existing Queensway hospital complex via a pedestrian corridor.

The complex care and rehabilitation services-focused building will offer 350 beds in a nine-story, 600,000 square-foot patient tower.

The facility’s design prioritizes natural daylight and provides views of nearby Etobicoke Creek and includes two courtyards and landscaped outdoor spaces. The building also features intuitive wayfinding that minimizes patient travel.

“In designing Queensway Health Centre, our team is embracing THP’s values of Compassion, Excellence, and Courage to create a dynamic, welcoming, and sustainable facility for the community,” said George Bitsakakis (pictured), project principal for Stantec. “We believe that facility design plays a vital role in optimizing patient care and clinical services while creating positive spaces for patients, staff, and the neighboring community. We’re excited to continue our work with THP to support the health and well-being of the community.”

Stantec will also design minor renovations for THP’s existing Queensway complex, including a new central utility plant. The consultancy is also providing planning, design, and conformance services for THP’s Mississauga Hospital expansion, which is significantly increasing bed capacity at the largest hospital in Ontario.

Stantec has worked on several major healthcare facility projects in Ontario in recent years, including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s phase 1C redevelopment and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital’s new 1.2 million square-foot facility.

Stantec provides a wide range of design and engineering services to clients across industries, including offerings in planning, engineering, architecture, interior design, surveying, environmental sciences, project management, and project economics for buildings and infrastructure. The firm has more than 22,000 employees globally and annual revenue of US$3.26 billion.
