There, in addition to his work as a surgeon, he coordinated research activities with a focus on increasing productivity and obtaining grants.

His academic activities include more than 450 peer-reviewed articles, books, and chapters on burn care. As a clinical investigator, he has secured over $22 million in funding to support research and clinical trials throughout his career.

Dr. Jeschke’s expertise in research is accompanied by a stellar record as a medical educator and as a mentor to residents, fellows, and students. He has also served as president of the Shock Society, a scientific society that focuses on improving the care of trauma, shock, and sepsis patients, and president of the Canadian Burn Association.

He became an MD in Germany in the mid-1990s at the Eberhard-Karls-Universitat Tübingen, in the State of Baden-Württemberg. After moving to the United States, where he obtained a Master of Medical Science degree at the University of Texas, Medical Branch in Galveston, he returned to Germany to complete his PhD (Habilitation) in Experimental Surgery at the University of Regensburg in Bavaria.

His current academic appointments include:

  • Professor, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery, University of Toronto
  • Professor, Department of Immunology, University of Toronto
