St. Joe’s Hamilton to implement 3terra for coding

July 27, 2022

John AldisMISSISSAUGA, Ont. – 3terra has announced that it has executed a multi-year agreement with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) to implement its industry-leading Medical Coding Assistance and Data Quality Platform, DQA. SJHH joins 44 other Canadian hospitals that use DQA to help improve the efficiency of the Medical Coding process and to minimize data quality errors that affect financial performance and quality improvement initiatives.

The software service is implemented on-site within days and provides immediate value to hospitals without the costs and risks typically involved with HIS implementations.

Through the use of world-class Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), DQA will ensure that SJHH’s CIHI submission data accurately reflects the quality of care that is provided by the hospital. DQA was built in collaboration with dozens of Canadian healthcare organizations to bring together the best data quality practices and techniques into one platform that SJHH and all other subscriber hospitals benefit from.

Effectively managing the coding workforce is becoming an increasingly important issue as coding specialists retire, leaving expertise shortages across Canada, particularly in remote rural areas. 3terra’s DQA platform helps bridge that gap by giving coding teams the tools they need to help manage increasing workloads while maintaining quality of CIHI submission data that impacts many areas of the hospital and broader healthcare system.

“Hospital data quality touches on so many important areas including quality improvement, system planning, funding, and research,” said John Aldis (pictured), senior vice president, finance and corporate services. “I have seen firsthand how 3terra’s platform can help optimize efficiency within coding and enhance analytics within decision support to improve data quality processes and outcomes. Their focus on the Canadian healthcare sector and applied use of artificial intelligence in this space is impressive. I would add that the 3terra team is extremely customer focused and has been exceptional to work with.”

“We’re very fortunate because this is a natural fit. St. Joe’s Hamilton has an amazing team of coders, analysts, and managers who are already very focused on data quality and coding efficiency. This is another example of the benefits of using AI within the administrative side of healthcare. It feels like we’ve finally reached the tipping point where the adoption of practical AI solutions in healthcare will rapidly accelerate,” said Akeela Jamal, CEO, 3terra.

3terra recently announced plans to bring its leading platform to hospitals and health systems across Canada, accelerated by the integration of clinical artificial intelligence from vendors like Microsoft, IBM, and Google. 3terra is well-positioned to be a leader in the emerging industry of integrating world-class commercial clinical AI to solve targeted analytical issues within healthcare.
