Special issue of mag focuses on age-tech

September 7, 2022

Don JuzwishinAndrew Sixsmith [2022]TORONTO – AGE-WELL and the Canadian College of Health Leaders have teamed up to produce a special themed issue of the journal Healthcare Management Forum focused on aging, technology and health in a post-COVID world. The September issue, available now, features 10 articles that share important evidence of lessons learned from COVID-19 and how they can be operationalized to benefit older adults.

“The aging of Canada’s population coupled with the sharp focus that COVID-19 has brought to the risks and challenges associated with the elderly aging in residential, community or home care settings creates an opportunity for health leaders, providers, innovators, and developers to double their efforts to identify how AgeTech can be mobilized to improve the quality of life of aging Canadians,” guest editors Drs. Don Juzwishin (pictured on left) and Andrew Sixsmith (pictured on right) write.

Topics in the special issue include emerging technologies, remote care and telehealth, autonomy and social isolation, and how health information and the digital determinants of health can be mobilized to improve healthcare delivery. Authors reflect on the long-term impact of COVID-19, implications for AgeTech and solutions to address barriers to AgeTech innovation.

“We are pleased to share this collection of articles that highlight the program that AGE-WELL has undertaken to bring older adults, researchers, innovators, providers, policy makers and health leaders together to advance Canada’s AgeTech sector to deliver technology-based solutions that support older adults and caregivers, and those who support them,” the guest editors write.

AGE-WELL is Canada’s technology and aging network. For the last seven years, the pan-Canadian network has served as a catalyst for technological innovation that empowers older Canadians to live healthy, independent and engaged lives, while driving Canada’s AgeTech sector.

Healthcare Management Forum (HMF) is the official peer-reviewed journal of the Canadian College of Health Leaders. The journal publishes articles on leading practices related to health leadership and management, including recent research, new technology and professional practices from health leaders’ perspectives.
