Facilities
State-of-the-art eye surgery centre now open
October 19, 2022
WINDSOR, Ont. – Windsor Surgical Centre and Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) are proud to announce the continuation of their partnership with the opening of a new facility that will serve thousands of eye surgery patients every year while freeing up hospital resources.
Windsor Surgical Centre is excited to announce the grand opening of its new state-of-the-art facility located at 10700 Tecumseh Road East in Windsor. The new, 12,000-square-foot facility is equipped with four Operating Theatres, 15 pre- and post-operative bays, and a dedicated Laser Room.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, when it became clear the hospital needed to free up space and resources, Windsor Surgical Center has been collaborating with WRH to complete their cataract and retina procedures of hospital-registered patients. This collaboration is the first of its kind in Ontario and has led to the completion of nearly 9,000 procedures, resulting in quicker access to care while lowering cataract wait times.
“Dr. Tayfour and I are thrilled to announce the Grand Opening of the new Windsor Surgical Center in partnership with Windsor Regional Hospital,” said Dr. Barry Emara (pictured), lead ophthalmologist vision care strategy, Ontario Health and co-owner Windsor Surgical Centre.
“This new state-of-the-art facility and initiative will be transformative in the way eye surgery and vision care is delivered in our region. Patients from our community will now have their eye surgery done in a comfortable setting in a facility where all advanced technology is available for surgeons and staff. This new surgical centre will also help us recruit the best and brightest eye surgeons to our region to serve our patients for many years to come. This initiative will also help free up valuable resources at Windsor Regional Hospital for more complex cases in other surgical specialties.”
“We are proud of our relationship with Windsor Surgical Centre, which has taken on the ability to complete these procedures outside of the walls of our main campuses. At the start of the pandemic, it became clear that thousands of patients could have these procedures completed elsewhere while remaining WRH patients as part of our public health care system. We are excited to see this relationship extend by giving our patients the opportunity to receive treatment in a newly renovated state-of-the-art facility that will provide quality eye care in a comfortable setting,” said David Musyj, president and CEO of Windsor Regional Hospital.
Windsor Surgical Centre is also very excited to announce the availability of the facility for other surgical specialties in collaboration with WRH, for cases suitable to be completed in an ambulatory surgical setting as approved by the Ministry of Health.
