Mark Fam new president of St. Mary’s Hospital

KITCHENER, Ont. – Mark Fam (pictured) has accepted the position of president of St. Mary’s General Hospital and will begin the role in February 2023. Mark is an accomplished executive with progressive leadership experience in the healthcare sector. He brings a solid understanding of industry trends, supported by experience that ranges across the healthcare continuum.
Mark joins St. Mary’s Hospital from Michael Garron Hospital where he is currently the vice president, clinical programs with responsibility for the majority of clinical services at the hospital, as well as leadership of a number of efforts with the East Toronto Health Partners, and the Ontario Health Team serving Toronto East. Prior to joining the Michael Garron Hospital, Mark was the vice president, corporate services at Health Quality Ontario.
A Certified Health Executive, Mark has a broad base of industry knowledge based on his 20+ years working in the health system, where he developed expertise in health system strategy, operations and planning, service integration, community engagement, and quality improvement at the local and regional levels.
In support of his past provincial agency, hospital and consulting work, Mark demonstrates an ongoing commitment to healthcare as a Certified Health Executive through his active participation in the Canadian College of Health Leaders, with roles on the Professional Standards Council, as a CHE Reviewer, and is involved in the early design of LEADS. Mark serves in a volunteer capacity as the Past Board Chair of the Canadian Medical Equipment Protection Plan (CMEPP), and as a Board Member of HealthPRO.
Mark also contributes to new learners in the health system through his work as an assistant professor with the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, and associate professor at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
The board of St. Mary’s Hospital thanks and acknowledges Sherri Ferguson for her commitment to St. Mary’s General Hospital during her tenure as interim president. Sherri will remain with St. Mary’s through to her retirement date at the end of March 2023, ensuring a smooth transition.
