WATERLOO, Ont. – The National Institutes of Health Informatics (NIHI) is offering its new courses on how to manage the HR crisis in healthcare. The key to leading in a time of crisis is resilient leadership, retention strategies and ROI fundamentals.
Healthcare Workforce Shortage – Retention Strategies and ROI
The healthcare workforce shortage has become a crisis. Retention is the key to survival for organizations in the healthcare system. We need to act now to retain and engage our valuable workforce. This course will present three practical solutions to retain and engage staff that can be employed immediately and even show a return on investment (ROI). The ROI Institute 12-Step Methodology will be demonstrated, showing how to identify both tangible and intangible measures, and calculate the Return on Investment (ROI), to ensure maximum impact and value to the organization.
Students will gain the ability to:
- Calculate you organization’s turn-over and replacement (churn) rate
- Prioritize retention strategies
- Determine a prototype solution that can have an immediate impact on your team and/or organization
- Outline a project using the introduced ROI Methodology to evaluate, calculate and communicate the ROI of potential solutions

Return On Investment (ROI) Fundamentals in Health Care
In today’s healthcare organizations, program sponsors and those who have responsibility for the success of projects are held more accountable than ever for the financial impact and ROI of their programs and projects. This course will provide the fundamental knowledge and skills to participants to measure value, impact and ROI in healthcare improvement initiatives, using the Phillips ROI Methodology. The course will include examples and real case studies to bring a practical approach to the participant’s learning.
Students will gain the ability to:
- Demonstrate ability to conduct an impact study
- Set program objectives for 5 levels of data
- Determine how to isolate the benefits of the program from other influences
- Conservatively convert impact measure improvements to monetary values
- Calculate the ROI of a program
