New directors announced by HIMSS Ontario

TORONTO – HIMSS Ontario announced four new board members for the 2023-24 term. The four new members are: Mireille Luc (pictured), PhD, President-Elect; Joe Mayer, Member-at-Large; Jennifer Backler, RN, BSc, Member-at-Large; and Andrew Nemirovsky, Ex-officio Member-at-Large. The board members were selected through a poll and the winners were announced at the latest annual general meeting at the end of June.
Here are their roles and background:
1. Mireille Luc, PhD, President-elect
Mireille Luc is senior director, Healthcare Strategy with Petal Health, in Montreal. As the senior director, Mireille is accountable for the company’s business, scientific and medical affairs in Canada and Europe. Mireille is a key player in creating synergy within the Petal team and bringing innovative ideas to healthcare leaders and decision-makers who are calling for solutions to the complex healthcare environment.
Petal Health supports healthcare systems by aggregating data from many technologies to a single source of truth to improve access to care in real-time. Petal’s core promises are patient access, workforce well-being, and advanced and predictive analytics facilitated by interoperability.
2. Joe Mayer, Member-at-large
Joe Mayer, HIMSS Ontario Member-at-Large. Joe is currently chief revenue officer for IDENTOS, in Toronto. IDENTOS is making digital trust and privacy accessible for people, organizations and connected devices.
The company is delivering Privacy respecting Digital Identity Access and Authorization Management solutions based on global open standards with a vision to realize a world where people have meaningful control over their privacy while driving more connected digital experiences.
As chief revenue officer, Joe is responsible for sales, business development, partner and channel management. He also leads te healthcare industry focus. Since taking over revenue responsibilities for IDENTOS, the company has delivered at least 4x YoY revenue growth five years in a row.
3. Jennifer Backler, RN, BSc, Member-at-large
Jennifer Backler is director, Professional Practice and Clinical Informatics at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She has a BSc degree in Health Informatics from Western Governor’s University and an RN diploma from Mohawk College.
4. Andrew Nemirovsky, Member-at-large
Andrew Nemirovsky is director of Client Relationships, Eastern Canada for Oracle Cerner. He is an Informatics Leader focused on improving healthcare in Canada.
Previously, he was chief nursing informatics officer for the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
As CNIO, he had a key role in engaging interprofessional leaders and promoting clinician adoption, which is vital to successful technology implementations. He worked closely with CMIO and CIO to ensure successful adoption of healthcare technology initiatives.
