Carestream lays off 210 employees
March 6, 2024
ROCHESTER, NY – Carestream is laying off 210 employees and shuttering one of its manufacturing facilities, the Rochester, New York-based medical imaging vendor announced recently.
Located in Windsor, Colorado, the site employs nearly 240 workers. Carestream recently alerted the state department of labor about the decision, which is due to reduced production volumes, the high cost of site infrastructure, and opportunities to streamline shipping.
“The Colorado site has reliably produced high quality products for decades,” Andrew J. Mathews, senior VP of operations, said in a Feb. 26 announcement. “It is important to emphasize that this decision is purely an economic decision, not one regarding the performance of the site,” he added later.
Carestream said the reduction in positions will commence in April with the first group of 137 employees. Matthews and colleagues anticipate that most will be released by the end of August, with Carestream retaining a small number of individuals after the Windsor closure, according to the WARN letter.
Carestream is a global provider of X-ray and other imaging systems. It has faced challenges in recent years, filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2022. Carestream has been hampered by the evaporation of the medical film business, which once accounted for a large portion of its products.
