Novari Health adds AI to streamline referrals

July 31, 2024

John Sinclair [2022]KINGSTON, Ont. – Novari Health is pleased to announce the launch of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to improve the timeliness and accuracy of healthcare referrals. This addition to its referral management solutions leverages AI and machine learning technologies to streamline and optimize the referral management process for healthcare organizations.

Hospitals and their individual clinics provide many different clinical services for patients. The administrative work of receiving and processing referrals is burdensome, expensive, and can delay treatment. This workload is worsened by a global shortage of essential human healthcare resources.

In recognition of this, Novari Health’s new AI feature is designed to help remove manual processes by automating the intake, extraction, and processing of referral documents. As a result, staff who were previously manually transcribing referrals can be freed up to do higher valued work.

The Novari AI system enhances accuracy by pre-populating data fields, detecting multiple referrals within a single document, and verifying patient information against existing records. The system quickly identifies incomplete referrals which can then be routed back to the referring clinician.

Queensway Carleton Hospital’s medical imaging department in Ottawa, Ontario is effectively leveraging this new AI capability to manage their high volumes of MRI requisitions more efficiently.

“When receiving hundreds of MRI requests a day, this has proven to be an important solution for our schedulers. We look forward to this interface being tested and implemented for all our modalities,” said Lisa Wherry, manager of Diagnostic Services, Queensway Carleton Hospital.

Novari Health’s AI work has been greatly accelerated with the formation of a dedicated AI team with a diverse skill set. This group of highly educated and talented individuals are tackling targeted problems that will have a material impact for patients and our client healthcare organizations.

“Artificial intelligence is transforming the delivery of healthcare. We are focused on using the power of AI to improve access to care for patients and at the same time, free up clinicians and administrators from mundane tasks,” said John Sinclair (pictured), president and CEO of Novari Health.
