SARNIA and PETROLIA, Ont. – Bluewater Health is thrilled to announce the appointment of Jane Mathews (pictured) as the new chief nursing executive and vice-president of Clinical Support Services. She has held leadership roles in professional practice and patient experience – most recently in the role of director, Professional Practice & Patient Experience, which she has held for the past eight years. Mathews began her career at Bluewater Health over 34 years ago as a staff nurse on the mental health inpatient unit.
“We are grateful to the impacts Jane has made throughout her career and leadership at Bluewater Health,” said Paula Reaume-Zimmer, president & CEO, Bluewater Health. “Over the years, she has demonstrated her commitment to innovation, quality care, and a positive patient and family experience. I’m looking forward to having Jane join our exceptional group of executive leaders at Bluewater Health.”
In this key nursing leadership role, Mathews will be instrumental in shaping the strategic and operational direction of the hospital, fostering a culture of kindness and ensuring the highest quality of patient and family-centred care. She will lead the expansion and enhancement of patient services, focusing on access, safety, quality, and sustainability.
“I have dedicated my nursing career to Bluewater Health and am honoured to be joining Bluewater Health’s executive leadership team,” said Mathews. “I am so grateful to have learned under Shannon Landry’s leadership over the last eight years and hope to continue her legacy.”
Mathews is a life-long learner dedicated to working collaboratively across all levels of the organization and in the community. She has earned her doctor of nursing practice, executive leadership, from Post University, and her masters of science nursing, Nursing management and organizational leadership, from the American Sentinel University. She is also a proud registered nurse. Earlier this year, Mathews was published in the Journal of Nursing Education and Practice, for her work and research on the “Impact of Pressure Injury Education on Nurses’ Knowledge in an Acute Care Setting”.
