Microcourses in leadership and ROI now available

WATERLOO and HAMILTON, Ont. – The National Institutes of Health Informatics and McMaster University Continuing Education are offering new microcourses, starting in the fall of 2024. Two new microcourses are: Leadership in Health Care, Learning to Lead; and Return on Investment Thinking in Health Care. The courses are live, interactive and online. Early bird pricing is available until Friday, September 6.
Leadership in Health Care: Learning to Lead. The course investigates the nature of leadership, considers what makes a good leader, and investigates the skills needed in leadership, including effective communication, handling conflict, building high-performing collaborative teams, decision-making, and setting and achieving a vision and goals.

Competencies Achieved
By successfully completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Delineate the current leading theories of leadership and leadership qualities
- Develop and deliver a successful communications strategy
- Provide effective feedback to colleagues/subordinates comfortably
- Understand their conflict management style, recognize the advantages and disadvantages of their approach, and act on improving their approach
- Demonstrate the steps in building a high-performing team and participate in one through the various exercises and simulations given in the course.

Competencies Achieved
By successfully completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Embed ROI Thinking into programs and initiatives.
- Demonstrate alignment of programs and initiatives to the organizational strategy.
- Develop objectives at all five levels of data – setting the program/initiative up for success.
- Analyze an impact or ROI study to determine how to improve the program/initiative.
- Develop a credible ROI Forecast.
This course will be taught by Suzanne Schell (pictured right): CRP; CEO of ROI Institute Canada; NIHI Instructor. Suzanne teaches the ROI Methodology to many various audiences and is involved in numerous program evaluation projects. Her role includes developing data collection and analysis strategies to identifying change in behaviour and business impact.
