CPSO launches new physician register
October 23, 2024
TORONTO – The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) launched its redesigned Physician Register on October 16, 2024. This database houses public profiles of all licensed Ontario physicians and is a frequently used resource among health-sector professionals.
The redesigned register features numerous enhancements, including a better user experience, a more intuitive display of physician information and strengthened cybersecurity. Visitors can search using a physician’s CPSO number or name, and each profile contains publicly available information about physicians, including their registration history, specialties, hospital privileges, and any applicable practice restrictions or public notifications.
The new register organizes content on a physician’s profile using tabs to reduce the need for users to scroll for information. It has also changed its name, from “Doctor Search” to “Physician Register,” to reflect its function more accurately.
“We are excited to introduce the redesigned Physician Register, which reflects our commitment to improving access to vital information while ensuring the highest standards of security,” says Nathalie Novak (pictured), chief operating officer of CPSO. “The enhancements we’ve made will not only simplify verifying prescription details, but also make it easier for the public to find accurate and up-to-date information about Ontario’s physicians. Our aim is to provide a more user-friendly experience while preserving the transparency and trust that Ontarians expect.”
CPSO developed these and other improvements in consultation with stakeholders, including Ontario physicians, pharmacists, hospital staff, medical schools, and members of the public. To help with the transition, it has also published some resources on its website. Visitors to the register can also contact CPSO’s Patient and Public Help Centre with any questions.
