MARKHAM, Ont. – Oak Valley Health has announced the appointment of Mark Fam (pictured) as its next president and CEO, following an extensive recruitment process. Fam brings a wealth of experience and a strong reputation in the healthcare sector, most recently serving as president of St. Mary’s General Hospital.
His previous leadership roles include serving as vice president of Programs at Michael Garron Hospital, where he played a crucial role in establishing integrated systems with community health partners. Additionally, he has held senior positions at Health Quality Ontario and North York General Hospital.
Fam holds a master’s degree in health administration and is a certified health executive, as well as an assistant professor at the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, and an associate professor at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.
His extensive experience in community hospital leadership and commitment to patient-centred care align perfectly with our vision of integrated care for healthier communities.
“We are thrilled to welcome Fam to the Oak Valley Health family,” said Nancy Sanders, chair of the Board of Directors. “His extensive experience in community hospital leadership and commitment to patient-centred care align perfectly with our vision of integrated care for healthier communities. We are excited to support him as he builds on the strong foundation laid by Jo-anne Marr over the past nine years.”
Fam will officially assume his new role on January 20, 2025, bringing with him an understanding of serving diverse and fast-growing communities. He expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity.
“I am honoured to join Oak Valley Health and am excited to work with this committed team and community partners,” said Fam. “Together, we will enhance our commitment to an extraordinary patient experience and grow our capacity so patients and families can receive the highest quality care, close to home.”
Jo-anne Marr, who has led the hospital through significant growth and achievements, will retire on November 29, 2024. Elena Pacheco, vice president and chief operating officer, will provide interim leadership between Jo-anne’s departure and Fam’s arrival.
