Southeast Ontario goes live with Oracle EHR

December 18, 2024

Leon GoonaratneBELLEVILLE, Ont. – Six healthcare organizations, including Quinte Health, have announced the launch of a new health information system across southeastern Ontario. The system – using the Oracle/Cerner electronic health record – will help share electronic medical records with access to results, health histories and appointments, for 650,000 people.

It will be called “Lumeo” and was developed by the following six organizations:

  • Brockville General Hospital
  • Kingston Health Sciences Centre – Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu sites
  • Lennox and Addington County General Hospital
  • Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital – Perth and Smiths Falls locations
  • Providence Care including Providence Care Hospital, Providence Transitional Care Centre, Providence Manor, and over 20 community sites across the region
  • Quinte Health – Belleville General Hospital, North Hastings Hospital, Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and Trenton Memorial Hospital

“This is a historic moment,” said Lumeo Regional VP Leon Goonaratne (pictured) in a news release. “The launch of this new system has been years in the making, with our teams dedicating years to training and preparation. Now, they are adapting to new ways of working together and supporting one another, while continuing to deliver patient care in our communities. Their hard work, dedication, and resilience are truly commendable.”

The system is expected to deliver the following benefits:

  • Less use of paper and handwritten notes
  • Barcode scanning of medications to reduce errors
  • Shared information across our six partner organizations
  • Easy look-up of appointment notes to share with caregivers or family members
  • More time for care, instead of asking and answering the same questions at each appointment
  • Consistent practices – one login, one record and one system for more reliable and efficient care

Patients will be able to review your appointments, treatments, test results and medications prescribed through the Lumeo HealtheLife portal.

More information about the system can be found at their website.
