LTC centre in Milton, Ontario is hacked
January 8, 2025
MILTON, Ont. – The personal health information of residents at a Milton long-term care home from the past 20 years was accessed in a data breach over the summer. According to Halton Region, a cybersecurity incident involving “third-party software” used by the Allendale Long-Term Care Home took place in June, giving hackers access to the names, health information and health-card numbers of residents who lived at the home from 2005 to July 2024.
Halton Region said it was initially assured in July that data wasn’t affected but was told in September of the privacy breach. The regional body oversees the long-term care home’s operations.
“We sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience this may have caused and recognize the potential impact on you and your family. Your understanding is greatly appreciated as we work to address this matter,” the region’s post read.
Since the breach, Halton said it is working with the vendor to secure Allendale’s systems and review procedures.
