Novari IT goes live at Southlake

February 26, 2025

Amir SoheiliNEWMARKET, Ont. – Southlake Health has modernized its diagnostic imaging referral management processes by implementing Novari Health’s Medical Imaging Requisition Management (MIRM) technology. The deployment is expected to enable Southlake to more efficiently manage the receipt, processing, workflows, and wait list management associated with outpatient community referrals for MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, and PET modalities.

The project involved tight integration with the hospital’s MEDITECH Expanse electronic health record system and enhanced integration with the hospital’s PACS, leveraging the DICOM standard.

“For 100 years and counting, Southlake has served some of the fast growing and aging communities in Ontario. Our partnership with Novari Health to streamline our imaging referral processes will help improve efficiency to deliver leading edge care,” said Amir Soheili (pictured), vice president, digital health and diagnostics, Southlake Health.

Novari technologies complement and integrate with many hospital information systems, electronic medical record systems (e.g., Epic, MEDITECH, Oracle Health/Cerner), PACS, and others.

Novari MIRM provides clerical staff, administrators, radiology technologists, and radiologists with a comprehensive medical imaging requisition management solution that includes wait list management, digital protocolling, customized workflows, and robust department analytics.

The system’s workflow capabilities can be configured to accommodate unique workflows for each modality and eliminate risks and inefficiencies inherent in paper-based processes. Novari technology also includes AI enhanced analytics that provide real-time data on patient wait times, helping organizations enhance resource utilization, identify workflow bottlenecks, and improve operational efficiency.

The system also includes RadView, an eProtocolling feature co-designed with Canadian radiologists to enable quick and efficient protocolling. The MIRM system is enhanced by enriched DICOM integration with PACS, enabling the uploading of relevant requisition documents into the HIS system and providing easy access for radiologists and medical imaging technologists.

Healthcare systems around the world continue to grapple with the legacy effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and human healthcare resources (HHR) shortages. To help offset these challenges, Novari Health provides state-of-the-art referral management, central intake, and wait list management solutions. These systems streamline the management of wait lists for medical imaging, surgery, mental health, diabetes, and other clinical services that have experienced unprecedented backlogs in recent years.

“For well over a decade, Southlake Health has trusted Novari technologies to enable the hospital to provide timely and efficient care for patients. The successful implementation of our medical imaging technology builds on this capacity and continues this tradition,” said John Sinclair, president and CEO, Novari Health.
