IoT solutions for New St. Paul’s Hospital

September 10, 2025

New St. Paul'sVANCOUVER – Borda Technology, a global leader in award-winning IoT and RTLS-powered solutions, has announced the adoption of its next-generation IoT solutions by Providence Healthcare – New St. Paul’s Hospital in Canada. As part of British Columbia’s largest hospital redevelopment project, this milestone is facilitated through a partnership with Plan Group, the electrical and technology contractor for the project.

Plan Group’s expertise is integral to the success of this transformative initiative, with the team managing the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of the hospital’s advanced electrical and technology systems.

St. Paul’s Hospital has selected Borda’s comprehensive suite of solutions, including staff duress, patient wandering and safety, asset utilization, and asset safety, utilizing advanced staff, patient, and asset tracking capabilities powered by BLE and AoA technologies, along with tags featuring an industry-leading battery life of up to five years.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in Providence Healthcare’s commitment to exceptional patient care and operational excellence, positioning the New St. Paul’s Hospital as one of the most digitally advanced healthcare facilities in Canada.

Commenting on this milestone, Akin Altunbas, CEO at Borda, remarked, “Our deployment at New St. Paul’s Hospital exemplifies our commitment to transforming healthcare into operationally aware facilities, boosting patient care quality, enhancing safety and elevating healthcare standards worldwide. We’re honoured to partner with Plan Group, the national leader in multi-trade solutions in Canada, and we’re glad to contribute to New St. Paul’s Hospital’s journey towards digital excellence. This long-term partnership will enable us to help more hospitals and other institutions as they navigate their digital transformation journeys.”

The solutions deployed at New St. Paul’s Hospital are set to revolutionize safety and operational efficiency across the facility. Key features include:

  • Staff Duress: Empowering hospital staff to call for emergency assistance with the simple touch of a button on RTLS-enabled badge tags. The system triggers immediate white code alarms and provides precise real-time location data to security personnel, ensuring swift responses in critical situations.
  • Patient Wandering and Safety: Enhancing patient care by providing instant alerts if patients attempt to leave designated safe zones, preventing dangerous situations such as falls or injuries.
  • Asset Utilization: Streamlining hospital operations by enabling real-time tracking of mobile assets, saving staff time spent searching for critical equipment, and ensuring immediate access to life-saving resources.
  • Tags with Industry-Leading Battery Life: Featuring up to five years of battery life, the IoT tags set a new industry standard, dramatically reducing maintenance needs and minimizing operational interruptions.

Plan Group, instrumental in the project’s execution, also expressed enthusiasm for the partnership.

“Leveraging our ongoing relationship with Borda, we worked collaboratively with the Providence Healthcare team to deliver a leading-edge technology solution that not only meets the hospital’s current requirements but is also designed to adapt to future needs in staff safety, patient care, and asset tracking,” said Steve George, construction director at Plan Group. “This partnership exemplifies our shared commitment to innovation and excellence, creating a safer, more efficient environment for both staff and patients while setting a new benchmark for healthcare facilities across Canada.”
